‘Guardians of Ancora’ is a world-class tablet game, developed by Scripture Union, for 8- to 11-year-olds offering an amazing virtual world and an immersive interactive experience of Bible stories. It combines the excitement and creativity of a high-spec online game with an immersive experience of Bible content and faith exploration. Players go on an exciting journey that will lead them through the virtual world of Ancora, as they explore the stories of the Bible.
The game is played on a tablet computer and children enter this virtual world as Guardians of the city called Ancora (meaning ‘anchor’ and ‘hope and support’). Their challenge is to find the Bible stories that have been lost. Find out more at: http://guardiansofancora.com.
Our aim is to use this as a core tool for after-school clubs. We will bring 10 tablet devices with us in order for the children to use the Guardians of Ancora app. While on the tablets, the children will only be able to access the Guardians of Ancora app. We would need a classroom in the school to hold the club in and ask that there is a teacher in close vicinity in case any issues arise, as well as to oversee the collection of the children at the end of the session.
The club will last for 60 minutes and will be limited to ten children. Guardians of Ancora club will run for six weeks (one half term), depending on the popularity and team availability it could be repeated in the following half term for different children. Each child will be using a tablet computer for the majority of the session, they will then be able to explore the Bible story more through fun and engaging activities, for example a quiz or a drama activity.
